LIFEGROUP LEADER RESOURCES

Welcome to the greatest team!

LifeGroups are the most important part of the future of our church.
Thank you for joining other leaders to see live's changed through community.

What Happens at Life Groups?

Every LifeGroup should consist of the following 4 components:

FOOD

Sharing a meal or snack together is one of the most important elements of your group. After the first gathering, organize a potluck for each gathering giving everyone some responsibility in the group. PRO TIP: Go first. When you fill up your plate they will feel more comfortable getting food.

FUN

Play a game or do some sort of ice breaker each week. The goal is for our group to do life together and we need to become friends. LifeGroup should be fun so we can make friends and be there for each other when life isn't fun.

DISCUSSION

You will recieve a discussion guide based on Sunday's message. The goal is discussion not lecturing. Your job is to ask great questions, listen, and keep the conversation going on track.

PRAYER

Finish every gathering with a time of prayer. Ask for prayer requests and follow up on them each week. PRO TIP: Prayer is also a great signal to the end of the group. After you say amen, stand and tell everyone, "Thank you for coming".

Sample Discussion Guide:

Each week you will receive a Discussion guide based on Sunday's sermon. This makes it so that even if someone isn't confident in their biblical knowledge, they can engage in the conversation and even ask clarifying questions about the teaching. We have provided a real example PDF based on one of Pastor William's sermons.

IceBreakers

That’s Me:
This is a good exercise for the first or second night. Text members ahead of time and ask them to bring one item that describes them. They can be as creative as they want. This could be something as simple as a coffee cup or something more creative. Whatever they choose, the goal is for them to bring it with them to group and then spend time sharing why their item describes them.

I’ve never
Give each person five pieces of candy. Put a big pot in the middle of the room. Then go around the room and each person (one at a time) has to say one thing they have never done, but they think everyone else in the group has. For example I have never thrown up. After I say that, every person that has thrown up puts one of their pieces of candy in the pot. You play until only one person has one piece left, or when time runs out whoever has the most candy left. The winner gets the pot of candy.

Two Truths and a Lie
Give each person in your group an index card and a pen. Then tell each member to write two things that are truth and one thing that is a lie. For example:
  1. I lived in Germany
  2. I have never broken a bone
  3. My middle name is Christopher
The truths and lie should be put in various orders so it is not obvious. After I read my three statements, the group then votes on which one of my statements was the lie. For the example I gave, the number 2 is the lie. This is a fun game to get to know each other.

Telephone (This is hysterical by the way)
Have everyone sit in a circle. Cut pieces of paper (about the size of a post-it-note) and give everyone the same # of sheets as you have people in your group. Everyone will also need a writing utensil. To begin everyone puts their 13 or 14 pieces of paper in a stack on their lap and writes a noun on the top sheet. When you say “pass,” everyone passes their entire stack to the person on their left. With the new stack in hand, you read the noun on the top sheet, put that sheet at the back of the stack, and quickly draw the noun you just read on the next piece of paper. After 5-10 seconds you say “pass.” Everyone passes their entire stack to the person on their left. With the new stack in hand, you look at the drawing, put that sheet at the back of the stack, and quickly write what you think was drawn on the next sheet of paper. After 5-10 seconds you say “pass.” Everyone passes their entire stack to the person on their left. With the new stack in hand, you read the noun on the top sheet, put that sheet at the back of the stack, and quickly draw the noun you just read on the next piece of paper. This routine of writing and drawing continues until you get your original stack again. Once everyone has their stack, you finish by going around the room and seeing how everyone’s noun changed as it went from person to person.

Take your pick (great at motivating even the introverts to talk)
Come up with a list of topics that members can choose to talk about. If your group has 12 then you would come up with 12 things. For example:
  1. Most embarrassing moment
  2. Favorite memory
  3. Worst Job
  4. Favorite movie
  5. Best Advice ever given
  6. If you had three wishes what would you wish for?
  7. Who is your hero?
  8. What movie best describes you
  9. Favorite Hobby
  10. If you could not fail what would you do?
  11. Last song you listened to
  12. Favorite Sports Team

Take a list like this and print it as big as possible on a piece of paper. Tape paper to something in the center of the room where everyone can see the list. Then tell members that they can pick one of the items on the list to talk about, but once it has been picked, that item gets taken off the list. For example, if I raise my hand first and pick “favorite movie,” then no one else in the group can choose that item. Each person has to raise their hand to talk, and you pick the first hand you see. You will also need a marker for this to put a line through items that have been talked about. You have to explain that group members have to say why it is their favorite, worst, etc., not just what it is. I love this because everyone is motivated to participate, so that they get the topic that they want to talk about, instead of the one that is left at the end.
